Boob metal.
Huntress basically gets way more written about them than they should, including this post, because of how their frontwoman looks. She looks like this:

And this is important to the point where I’m talking about it now before I talk about any of her music. Her looks basically dominate any conversation about the band, and who am I to buck the trend.
Here is what I will say about Huntress’ music: You should probably like it. That is if you’re the kind of person that really enjoys Iron Maiden, or any of the new school metal running the gamut of earnestly genre referential that runs between straight up “originals that sound like covers” a la Christian Mistress to the gleefully over the top style metal of 3 Inches of Blood. Just as sound-sans-tits, you should all love this, because that’s what it is. It’s like rawk-metal. It’s got a lot of King Diamond-esque histrionics, being both hilarious and awesome at the same time. (I won’t front like King Diamond is awesome because of how menacing and evil he is, he’s awesome because he’s ridiculous.) That’s the kind of thing it is. It’s Heavy Metal. Camaro Metal. Dirtbag Metal. Whatever we wanna call it, or we can call it boob metal, because of the above.
Jill Janus, or Tuesdae or whatever she is calling herself is professionally hot. She’s decided to roll her looks out as her main marketing platform, rather than Huntress’ music. I don’t really have a definitive thing to say about that. I am only a mid level white liberal. Despite going to college and stuff, I don’t claim to understand feminist theory at all. In the course of hanging out on the Twitter, I’ve heard it said that an artist’s looks should never be brought up in discussion of their music. That seems like it only applied to dudes being judgmental about a woman’s looks when they didn’t find them appealing. I’ve also heard it opined that basically if Jill or someone like her does this kinda thing, it lowers the general standing of all women as musicians everywhere. I’ve also heard “we’re gonna use what we got to get what we want.”
Basically I think everyone who wanted to make a ‘this should be about the music’ argument missed the boat by talking about this lady’s rack, whether she’s a poseur or not, and not like the band’s music, which is pretty much ok if you’re into this sort of thing.
